Chelmsford is leading the way with a goal of reaching Net-Zero emissions by 2050, and residents can play a major role by making their homes more energy-efficient. According to Chelmsford’s Energy and Sustainability Committee, improving and electrifying the town’s buildings will greatly help the town’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions.

Unlock Thousands in Incentives and Tax Credits

If you’re a Massachusetts resident, scheduling a no-cost Home Energy Assessment is the first step to unlocking:

  • 75-100% off insulation and air sealing
  • Up to $16,000 in heat pump rebates
  • 0% interest financing up to $25,000 through the Mass Save HEAT Loan to help with any additional costs of efficiency upgrades
  • No-cost instant upgrades like smart thermostats and water-saving devices
  • Up to $1,200 in federal tax credits for insulation work completed by December 31, 2025
  • Up to $2,000 in federal tax credits for heat pumps installed by December 31, 2025
  • Discounted electricity rates for heat pump owners this winter through Eversource, National Grid, and Unitil

New in 2025: Discounted Winter Electric Rates

Starting November 1, Chelmsford residents who upgraded to heat pumps through Mass Save will be automatically enrolled in a discounted electric rate through National Grid. If you already have a heat pump but didn’t go through the Mass Save program, you’ll need to verify your system to qualify for the new rate. Details will be posted at HomeWorksEnergy.com/Chelmsford as soon as they become available, but be sure to contact National Grid (or your electric utility provider) to verify your enrollment prior to November 1.
