HomeWorks Energy May Employee Spotlight: Cory Fehser, Weatherization Crew Lead

At HomeWorks Energy, our success begins with the people on the ground — and in the attics. This month, we’re excited to recognize Cory Fehser, a Weatherization Crew Lead who plays a vital role in helping Massachusetts residents improve the energy efficiency, comfort, and safety of their homes.

A Leader in the Field of Weatherization

As a Weatherization Crew Lead for HomeWorks Energy, Cory leads a team of insulation and air sealing technicians. Together, they install the first line of defense against heat loss, drafts, and energy waste in homes. Cory’s hands-on approach and thorough understanding of the job ensure his team delivers high-quality results on every project.

When insulating an attic, Cory’s team starts with air sealing first.

“I treat heat and air penetrations, seal gaps, and make sure everything is prepped properly before we blow in the correct amount of insulation,” Cory explained.

For walls, the team removes the home’s exterior siding, drills access holes throughout the house, and densely packs the walls until they’re fully insulated. Cory’s knowledge and attention to detail help ensure that every home meets HomeWorks’ standards of job excellence.

HomeWorks Energy Weatherization Crew Lead Cory Fehser

Cory’s journey with HomeWorks began over five years ago. “I started as a technician, just like the guys on my team now. Then I became a crew lead after about a year,” he said.

Since then, he has led hundreds of successful weatherization projects, earning the respect of his team and company leadership alike.

Quality Begins with Safety: A HomeWorks Energy Core Value

Cory was nominated for the May 2025 Employee Spotlight in recognition of his exceptional commitment to safety, a reflection of HomeWorks’ newest core value, Quality Begins with Safety.

Quality Begins with Safety, a HomeWorks Core Value

Over the past three years, Cory has led more than 800 weatherization jobs with just one minor incident — a remarkable record in a physically demanding and often hazardous line of work.

HomeWorks Energy Core Company Values

“We’ve definitely got a lot of safety protocols in weatherization,” Cory said.

In the attic, his crew has to be sure to stay on the joists — one misstep, and they’re falling through the ceiling.

“Roof safety, ladder protocols — it’s all taken seriously,” Cory added. “What I really appreciate is that HomeWorks provides everything we need to stay safe. If you need a tool, they’ll get it.”

That includes essential gear like tie-back suits, respirators, headlamps, and gloves. “In attics especially, it’s important to keep your clothes clean and protect your skin from the blown-in rock wool insulation.”

As a crew lead, safety is Cory’s responsibility — not just for himself, but for his entire team.

“I’m very hands-on and verbal,” he said. “You gotta stay on those guys and teach them the correct way to do things. But once they get something down, they’re good with it,” he said.

The HomeWorks Energy Customer Experience

Cory doesn’t just manage the job site; he also plays a key role in the homeowner’s experience. As the point of contact for homeowners during an installation, he ensures clear communication and trust throughout the process.

“If a homeowner is curious and wants to know what’s happening step by step, I’m happy to walk them through everything we’re doing,” Cory said. “It’s their home, and I want them to feel confident about the work we’re doing.”

Thank you, Cory!

Cory Fehser’s leadership, technical skills, and unwavering focus on safety make him an invaluable part of the HomeWorks team. Thank you, Cory, for your dedication, your professionalism, and the example you set every day!
