On Wednesday it was announced that Massachusetts ranked #1 for energy efficiency in a survey of all 50 states. The survey, conducted by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy with support from the US Energy Department, scored states across several categories:
- utility programs,
- transportation initiatives,
- building energy code programs and compliance,
- heat and power policies, and
- energy-efficiency efforts.
Massachusetts scored perfect 20/20 in utility programs, and 4/4 for heat and power policies. The state scored 8.5/10 for transportation initiatives, 6/7 for building energy code programs and compliance, and 5.5/7 for state-led energy-efficiency efforts; for a total of 44/50 points.
