Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Are there any available tax credits for making my home energy efficient?
A: Yes, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act offers $1,500 in tax credits toward home efficiency improvements.
Q: Are there rebates available to help with any improvement projects?
A: HomeWorks Energy is a certified contractor in the National Grid and NStar rebate programs, which currently provide a 75% rebate, up to $2,000 total, to gas heating customers for our weatherization services.
Q: How much can I save?
A: Energy savings will vary by home depending on the results of the audit -- typically, homeowners who implement multiple improvements experience up to 40% savings. In addition to saving money, improvements can also lead to a safer home and a more comfortable environment for you and your family.
Q: What should I do to prepare for the Home Energy Audit?
A: You only need to do a couple of things prior to your
Home Energy Audit:
- Allow up to 4 hours for your audit – timing varies by home and will also depend on how many questions you may have for your HomeWorks Energy consultant.
- If you have a fireplace, you will need to sweep out the ashes before performance testing can be completed on your home.
- Finally, you will need your last 12 months of utility bills available for your HomeWorks Energy consultant to review and document.
Q: Do I need to be present during the audit?
A: It's important that your HomeWorks Energy consultant fully understands any concerns you may have regarding the energy cost and comfort of your home; therefore, at least one homeowner must be present during the audit. In addition, we also promote active involvement throughout the audit by all owners so they can have a better understanding of the actual tests being preformed on the home and the benefit of each.
Q: How much will it cost to solve potential home issues uncovered by the audit?
A:
While the energy audit testing process is the same for every home, the
results can differ significantly from one home to the next. In
addition, each homeowner can have different goals and may elect to do
the work in different sequence than recommended. For these reasons, the
cost for improvement will vary depending on your unique situation. Your
HomeWorks Energy consultant will review costs and savings scenarios
based on your unique situation.
